I am glad that you are feeling better. I loved your story, very insightful and entertaining. I'm sorry that it took such a bad experience to lead to its creation.

Thanks so much! I'm glad you picked up on the entertaining aspect. It was miserable while I was going through all that, but I can see the humor of all the strange symptoms now that they are over--a true nurse.

Thanks for sharing your COVID experience, Theresa; now, when others develop the succession of symptoms you described, they can be reassured that there will be an end point. See, even when sick, you remain an active nurse helping others!

Rest up and ease back into your schedule…

This is a very sweet message. Thank you! You were one of the most vocal of my readers encouraging rest and I appreciated that focus on caring for myself. Health seems so simple and easy to take for granted until we are sick. Lucky for me, my health has returned.

Oh Theresa, that sounds just awful—much worse than Alexander’s day. (Did you grumble to yourself, “I think I’ll go to Australia”?)

Your recommendations that when we are sick we should accept help and give ourselves time to recover are so important (as is vaccination, of course). I’m so glad you listened to your body and took the measures you needed to get well.

Thanks for this, Mari! You would think that as a nurse I would understand that caring for ourselves has to come first, but as I've written about in other columns, nurses (and doctors, too, I think) are trained to care for others, sometimes at the expense of our own health. That makes no sense and I'm glad I'm really figuring that out.

I admire you for using your platform to encourage self-care and—especially!—staying home when we’re sick. I think US culture is beginning to change on this issue, and since Covid it has become more acceptable to take our sick days when we need them. Good!
