Welcome to the Healing Newsletter!
Hi All,
With the national conversation heating up about topics dear to me, I’m going to be sending out a newsletter more often. I’ll be recommending a book or an article, telling you what I’m up to, and of course filling you in on the release of my third book: Healing: When A Nurse Becomes a Patient. Publication date is April 12, but if you want to get ahead of the game, pre-order it now at TheresaBrownRN.com. I’m also eager to hear what you’re thinking and reading, so if you feel like it, add a comment below.
Believe it or not, I just read Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, both by Lewis Carroll, cover-to-cover for the first time. I had only read them in bits and pieces before. I loved Alice, Through the Looking-Glass not as much. I read them because I write about them in Healing. Cancer makes life and language nonsensical, in the same way that Lewis Carroll does. I also describe being a patient as “Theresa in Cancerland.”
I'm interviewed for the Wall Street Journal
The Wall Street Journal recently published a piece on nurses leaving the profession and I’m quoted in it. The reporter said I really helped her see that this problem needs to be talked about. So many nurses are leaving the bedside that I worry about patients’ safety. More must be done to make nurses feel valued.
Book Tour for Healing
Planning for my book tour is beginning. It may be mostly virtual (thank you, Omicron!), but the upside of that is anyone can attend from anywhere. Plus, spending less time in airports is always a good thing, even if it means I won’t meet readers in-person. Stay tuned for more on that!
Stay warm and well—with hugs,
Theresa
